Fabulous stay on a foothill with a private waterfall
By karthicnagaraj on May 9, 2018
Built on the slopes of a small hill this resort has good views of the surrounding forest and spectacular breeze almost all day long. It also has a private yet natural waterfall that requires a small and fairly easy trek. The service was excellent and they never gave us an opportunity to complain about the food. Our only disappointment was the existence of a lot of bugs and lizards in one of the cottages that we had stayed. That cottage certainly could have been maintained better! Word of caution: Almost no mobile connectivity other than Jio. This would also mean no digital form of payment to settle the bills.
Mighty Surprise !
By Binesh R on October 11, 2017
We were a team of 13 people , Traveled by our own cars (TUV,Baleno,Ecosport)from Bangalore . (15th September) ...The Drive was amazing packed with wonderful scenic beauty. It was very pleasant till the Destination . And then it was the First Surprise Ride to enter the Home stay a small stretch of of Road experience. Wonder-full and Exiting. Then comes Deepak the care taker... Amazing guys with full energy. Greeted us with Coffee n Tea..(4 am Start from Bangalore - Reached by 10 am ) Then immediately Deepak asked us to start for a small trek to the Water fall. We had no idea how it would be...but the trek was amazing filled with bloody Leeches ...till we reached the waterfall... And then the Mighty Surprise was revealed....Huge ,Giant ,Mighty ....WATERFALL! ... And then Lunch (Very good Food both Veg n Non) All set for Camp fire for the night. All together an unforgettable trip! Love to go again.

This is located in an amazing location with a private waterfall and has a very good viewpoint as well. This is the only good thing that I can think of! 1. Food was average. No where related to Malanad cuisine. Not even a cup of coffee! Food was not served on time. 2. Rooms were pathetic. Not clean at all. Bed spreads and Bed sheets were a decade old and stinking. 3. Toilets was bad with no covering to the windows. They have just put a old curtain there. So all insects - snails, worms, rats could easily sneak into our cottages. No hot water. We only got 24/7 luke warm water. 4. There were rats in all 3 cottages that we had booked. Ate most of our stuffs. We had informed the staff the next day to take preventive measures, but they dint even bother to come to room and check. Very horrible experience. IMO, this is a very commercial place where they don't care for their customers. I would suggest to go to a homestay where the owner also stays in the same place, instead of going to a place where owner comes to visit once in a bluemoon and leave the rest to the staff to take care of everything.
Ranga Taana Experience
By madan k on October 3, 2017
The home stay is located at an amazing location. It's a full 10/10 for the view and location. Food was ok - 6/10. But, the service, cleanliness, safety is absolutely pathetic. Hot water is a big problem unless you are OK with taking bath in ice cold water. We had to literally force the staff to carry hot water in buckets for kids. The bed sheets, bed spreads were smelly, really doubt if they regularly wash/change/maintain those. Snails sneak through inside room, even with room doors and windows closed. They were all over inside the room & bathroom, on the cot as well - too close for comfort. Like snails, rats were a nightmare. It ate our snacks, and whats worst - it chewed off our clothes. So 4/10 for service, cleanliness, safety.
A wonderful offbeat experience

We, a group of 4 stayed in Ranga Taana for couple of days in the last week of September. This home stay is co-ordinated wth Letz Step Out gateways. Host Chetan was very welcoming along with the chef and other staff. It's advisable to go here with a 4X4 vehicle. Not sure if a hatchback/sedan can go upto the homestay. A couple of kms away from the main road, this property is a part of Bhadra wildlife buffer zone. The private waterfall was amazing and it still had lot to offer even after reading multiple reviews on trip advisor. One need to take care of leeches though. There are a lot of them. Carry some salt/Dettol and wear good shoe as the trek to waterfall is steep and need some good foot grip. It's close to Kemmangundi (Hebbe waterfalls). We went with zero expectations on food and it turned out to be quiet good. We will definitely visit Ranga Taana again. Three cheers :)
